For those of you who are wondering who I am, my name is Kath Van Hanegem. I have been at my present address in the east of England since 1969 and like most gardeners I have changed the front and rear gardens several times, trying to achieve attractive gardens that are fairly easy to maintain.

The front fuchsia garden borders are filled with narcissi for spring colour and 70 different hardy bush fuchsias for summer and autumn.

The rear perennial borders are filled with bulbs and hardy flowering plants. Its crammed full, so its easy to maintain, I have always said the more plants you have the less weeds will grow. The bottom third of the rear garden is covered with gravel, this has a membrane underneath to stop weed growth. Black wooden trellis surrounds the bonsai garden, which consists of stands and shelving for fuchsia and other bonsai trees which I have grown.
